The reason why NdFeB magnets are called the strongest magnets
The reason why NdFeB magnets are called the strongest magnets

Performance Advantages Extremely strong magnetism:

NdFeB magnet is the strongest permanent magnetic material in commercial application, known as “King of Magnets”. Its magnetic energy product is usually 200-400kJ/m³, which is 5-12 times that of ferrite magnets and 3-10 times that of alnico magnets, and it can pick up heavy objects equivalent to 640 times its own weight135.

High remanent magnetization and high coercivity:

The remanent magnetism is the magnetic induction strength that a magnet maintains after the removal of an applied magnetic field, and the coercive force is the strength of the magnetic field required to magnetize the magnet under the action of an applied magnetic field. NdFeB magnets have high remanent magnetism and coercive force, which makes their magnetic properties more stable and less susceptible to interference or demagnetization from external magnetic fields35.

Higher operating temperature:

Ordinary NdFeB magnets can work at about 80℃, and high-temperature type NdFeB magnets with special treatment can even work above 200℃15.

Material and Cost Advantages Raw materials are relatively abundant:

The main raw material iron is very cheap, and the reserves of rare earth neodymium are 10-16 times more than samarium, so the raw material cost of NdFeB magnet is relatively low compared with rare earth magnets with the same performance, such as samarium cobalt magnet1.

Cost-effective:

Although its raw material contains rare earth elements and is relatively expensive, due to its superior magnetic properties, it is possible to reduce the amount of material used in many application scenarios, thus lowering the overall cost3.

Good mechanical properties:

With high hardness, high tensile strength and good toughness, it is more suitable for use in a variety of environments, able to resist a certain degree of mechanical shock and vibration, and convenient for cutting, drilling and processing of complex shapes3.

Diversified shapes and sizes:

Easier to manufacture into a variety of shapes and sizes, can be molded by pressing, extruding, injecting and winding and other processing methods, but also by changing the formulation of the material and the heat treatment process to adjust the magnetic properties of the material to meet the diverse needs of different fields5.

Wide range of application fields:

Due to its excellent performance, NdFeB magnets are widely used in energy, transportation, machinery, medical, IT, home appliances and many other industries. In new energy vehicles, it is the key material for motors; in the medical field, it is used in nuclear magnetic resonance instruments; it is also used in electronic equipment, such as cell phone vibration motors and headphones.
